my second day in Bonn (Friday) was my first day at work. we work at the coolest, tallest tower in the whole of bonn, and the structure is all made of glass. there's this keypad at the lifts where you key in the level you want to go to, and the system returns you with which lift you board.

somehow from a certain level you have to get out and switch lifts, then you repeat the procedure by keying the floor you want to go to and you get a whole new lift again. it felt like some fun puzzle to solve.

signed my contract. and from across the office, i can see the UN tower. :) bonn has quite a few climate conferences.

then transition kicked off, i am so glad to be working with James and Stefanos because we are all pretty similar in our working styles. 20+ interns waiting to be on-boarded, we're on a roll!

after work we went to a beer garden (nah, no alcohol for me, always coke). interesting concept, and it's by the Rhine, which is really beautiful.

saturday was spent by making a trip to the grocery store. in bonn there are no plastic bags, you have to bring your own shopping bag and stuff your purchases. most people drove to the grocery store when i did my shopping and that was the 1st time i started to think maybe i should go learn driving here.

night time: WORLD CUP! Sarah, the new UBS gc, gave me a garland of Deutschland colours before the game started. love the gift~ pure excitement, and everyone was rooting for the same team.. singing the national anthem, wow, the feeling was great because somehow i think i lack patriotism for my own country. :p when the german team scored there was bursts of cheers in German ("super Deutschland"). someone threw his cup up into the air and huge drops of his beer splashed over me. that's how excited people were.

after the germans won, people on the streets were carrying flags in cars and screaming Deutschland.. haha. the tram stop's electronic system to inform us when the next tram was coming also announced the results of World Cup.. cool right?
