products are being purchased in cheaper amounts by going to the poorer countries. and watching this video made me link another concept which i gave some thought earlier..

in ethics class, i watched a video on primark - is it ethical for people in the affluent countries to purchase products so cheap?

this is linked again to environmental concerns. producing products isn't as clean as we want to believe, it releases more toxins and greenhouse emissons. when we dispose materials, recycling doesn't help. the combination of the packaging - most of the time they aren't made for recycling purposes (a synthetic combination of metals, plastic)- makes it impossible to really recycle. trash is either going to a landfill (our land! with garbage sitting underneath, and toxic seeping into our earth and water) or the incinerator (toxic going to the air we breathe) and then to the ground.

i wonder.. if we get caught up in our preconceived little world, without giving much thought to how products are made. we think we know, or we pretend to not see - since entertaining much thought to it may cause us more distress, and to face the fact that we're not as perfect as we seem to be.

the world is not just about me. not about the job i have, how successful i am in my life, but the whole larger picture of what consequences my actions have on the larger world. leadership is in the way i live my life, not the role i hold in any organization or formal recognition.

we think, ignorance is bliss.

i think, ignorance is not bliss. at least in the long run, we find ourselves being at the losing end, and it may simply be too late.

it's high time to really find out what goes on with the products i purchase.. and you too.

and don't just think about it. act on it.
