on the 19th of june, starwood apd had a mid year event.. and in the afternoon, the entire company climbed into the chartered buses and were transported to the event venue!
guess what was the activity?
paintball- some associates were eagerly anticipating to get out on the field, while others were dreading for the day to come - there were comments from those who previously played paintball dubbed it "
painball", for the shots were extremely painful.
when we reached the venue, all of us gathered into our groups. we were divided according to the different brands in Starwood and mine was element. :) i loved the concept of splitting into hotel brands! (and the best part was, there are no ranks and titles on the field! teamwork~)
and so, strategizing began.. everyone was raring to go!

first round was fun-packed. everyone was still figuring out how to manoeuver the guns and zip across the playing field so you could enjoy the process of playing.
in the second round, i couldn't figure out where the source of the orange paint that was dripping on me was. even more orange paint was to come.. during the game, paintballs hit the tin barrels - which i was hiding behind for cover and to strategically fire paintballs- splotched all over my shirt.
so while we were waiting for our second turn on the field, we observed other teams fight it out.. and as the teams became confident in the game (a few were back on the field for round two before us), more shots were fired.. boy, was it scary. one of my colleagues was shot in the head and a huge bump formed on his forehead.
more casualties followed.
my friend suffered shots all over her body- she had been the despatcher to collect the flag and the brick.. unfortunately, that also made her an easy target for paintballs too.
next, one guy's throat was hurt by a paintball, and his skin quickly turned bluish-black. shivers ran down my spine at that point, since i was due to play the final round. i feared for my head and my hands and my legs- basically, everywhere.
and i found out, that paintball is indeed
painball. while i was running back to home base, i was shot in the back -
ouch!
we had mini-competitions between our home groups.. and time came for the final showdown between three alliance groups.
Our alliance emerged victorious- making all those shots suffered worthwhile! victory tasted extremely sweet~ the MVP also came from our team (she dashed out to plant our flag amidst the hostile "gun"fire, and was shot in the process).. and it's a she! so proud of her :D

and the following day, the ubiquitous question heard in the office was: "how many bruises have you got?".. and people were comparing the size of their blue-blacks. :p
