i didn't get shortlisted for the starhub job so the lady at recruit express asked me to go down to tm for another interview with starhub, this time with the starhub manager and not conducted by recruit express staff. don't think i got the job again. cos the manager said the results will be out by this evening. haven't heard from anyone yet.
well. it wasn't such a a fantastic afternoon. mother and i went for lunch at the food court at tm. both my mum and i went to order food and i returned to my seat while my mum paid for the food. i noticed that there was a handphone on the seat, but didn't dare to pick it up lest the owner came back to claim. i was kinda relieved when the cleaner actually picked up the phone, as i thought she was going to pass it to the management, just in case the indian woman came back to claim her phone.
instead the cleaner asked the lady sitting at the table opposite if that was her hp, which i thought didn't make sense to me, since i'm closer to handphone. i just dismissed the thought, thinking she intended to do the above mentioned. so my mum finally returned with the food, which we were going to share (and i was so hungry by then i ate everything =X) and told her everything she missed. mum informed me that there was an indian lady sitting next to us, who had been reading earlier. since i'd been gobbling the food down, my mum went off to order thai cuisine for herself and meanwhile (my mum disappears when the action happens) the indian lady came back with this indian man, who went to the cleaners corner to speak to the other cleaners to look for the phone. so i matched the indian lady with mum's description as she was holding a book in her hands. i told her a cleaner had taken her phone. the indian lady passed the info to the indian man who came over and asked me if the cleaner was a short lady cos she wasn't anywhere in sight. eventually the cleaner came back and the handphone was in her possession. the indian lady received her handphone back.
the indian man turned out to be the manager. he ended up scolding the cleaner, and since we didn't know that he was the manager, my mum got me to speak up for the cleaner. (she felt sorry for her.) so i said she did ask the lady at the other table if the hp was hers. but the manager replied that he had been telling the staff to pass whatever articles customers left behind were to be given to him immediately since day1 and she had defied his instructions. i think she was sacked on the spot.
unfortunate accident. i wish i hadn't been there to witness the whole episode. i didn't want to be the eyewitness. all i wanted to do was return the phone, not get somebody sacked. mother was quite upset at the fact the cleaner lost her job.. she was sorry that the cleaner lost her job at such an age. well, that just added on to my sense of guilt. i meant to speak up, help the girl retrieve her phone, and it just goes to show Man cannot control the consequences of his actions. haiz. this is the first time i can't feel glad that i helped someone cos.. i caused someone to lose her job.
